Kids off to school.
Home for a coffee.
Not much convo between me and the Mrs. We're good together, just both concerned for the future. Its at times like this we know our silence makes us strong.
En route to the court. My wife recounts the money and takes all the items out of her handbag that were confiscated last time. We take the court fees in a separate envelope just in case we don't need them. The bank statements never arrived in time from the bank.
We get to the court at 10:40...5 minutes till our appointment. Stand like lemons in the court office room as both the counter staff were bust with other people. Suddenly, my name is called. Please take a seat. Errrrrrr......seriously??? This was all going to be dealt with in the presence of other people waiting?
A friendly man went through all the forms to check they had been filled in sufficiently. He asked if we had the money to pay for the bankruptcy. We said we did but we would like to apply for fee remission. We explained we only had one bank statement with us and asked if this would be OK. He said he would definitely need to see statements from the last 3 months from all of our bank accounts. We asked if we could pay the £180 today and claim it back at a later date. He agreed this would be possible but advised us if the claim was successful at a later date the £180 would automatically be property of the Official Receiver. He asked if we wanted to book an appointment for the following week. We declined saying we would just have to pay the £180 as it was messing our heads up enough just waiting and waiting. He started going through the forms and then asked me to sign and date them all in front of him. As he stamped them, my wife asked if we went to the bank this morning and got the statements, would we be able to come straight back with them and keep the court fees. The clerk said he was happy to do this as he had had a cancellation for 1 hours time. If we were back within the hour with the bank statements, the bankruptcy petition could go ahead and we could keep the court fees.
We left the court and raced to the bank. No queue??!! Luck was on our side (for once)! Statements printed and we raced back to the court. Sweating and out of breath we asked to see the clerk again. He was happy with the bank statements and we did not need to pay the court fee. I asked what happens next. He noted down my contact numbers and said he would contact me by telephone either today or tomorrow with an outcome of the bankruptcy. He said very few are ever refused.
I was given a number :-) I am now 0xxx of 2015 at County Court xxxxxxxxxxxxx and we got in the other queue to pay the Official Receivers fee. Receipt given. My wife asked, if the bankruptcy gets refused, does the Official Receivers fee get returned to us? No one knew the answer to this.
We go home and wait for the phone to ring.
Can't concentrate. Don't want to talk about it. Will take the dogs for a walk.
Phone rings after picking up dog shite and its the clerk I saw in the Court Offices this morning. I was declared bankrupt at xx:xx this morning.
I asked what happens next. He advises I use my bank account as usual and await for a phone call from the Official Receiver.
OK, so I'm bankrupt but I don't have to do anything? Thought I'd be told to get to the bank and close my accounts.
