2 copies of both forms at the ready. All we've done for the last few days is fill in forms, make mistakes, reprint them, go through paperwork to get all the information we need, we've been eat, sleep and drinking paperwork and its a relief to finally be handing it over.
Court opens 8.30am, we're standing outside 8.25 looking like the sad desperate ones waiting to get in. That moment when you see the staff inside looking at you and you just know they'll leave it that extra minute to open the doors. One person behind us having a fag. Phew, we're still first...oh no, he just went through a security door (he was also staff!!).
1st through the doors, greeted by smiles from security. Need to empty our pockets and go through an airport metal detector!! My wife had the contents of her handbag picked through and some items taken away - a perfume bottle, nail file & mirror. She was given and number and told to collect her things on the way out.
Asked security where to go for Bankruptcy petitions. The court offices...open at 10am. We sat and waited enjoying the array of people that came through after us. We both enjoy people watching. Thirst got the better of us and we sat and had a very expensive tea and coffee in court café YUCK and we went straight back out to sit and wait for the court offices to open. We were watching people come through security saying to each other...I think they're here for the same thing as us...all average Joe/Joanna's all in the same situation as us.
We were first at the court office counter at 10am. We explained we would like to file for bankruptcy.
OK, do you have an appointment?
No, we tried to contact the court via telephone several times and got put on hold before getting cut off.
Yes we do understand there is a problem contacting us but you need an appointment.
Do you have an appointment today or this week?
No, the first appointment available is the 20th April.
OK, we'll take it but it is quite disappointing that we did try to call in advance to find out if we needed an appointment but there was never anyone that could take the call.
Is 20th at 10:45 OK?
Yes that's fine.
You need 3 copies of all the forms and payment of £525 for the Official Receiver and £180 court fees.
It says on the government website that you only need 2 copies of the forms.
*LEAVES DESK TO CHECK WITH COLLEAGUE*
No, its definitely 3 copies.
OK thanks and off we go.
So we paid for petrol, parking, and wasted a morning to be told we needed an appointment. Fantastic. Also head F**K, we have another 6 days to wait before we can get the ball rolling.
